training field : ウィキペディア英語版 | training field
In the U.S. region of New England, many towns and cities have kept and maintained the training fields that served as the training grounds for soldiers, militia, and townspeople during former wars, including the American War of Independence, the War of 1812, and the American Civil War. Today, these areas are normally designated as historical sites, and typically include monuments dedicated to veterans of American wars. Sometimes, they also include statues of former important figures in past wars, such as George Washington or the Marquis de Lafayette. They may also include old or antique weapons, such as centuries-old cannons. Some training fields are located in the older parts of cities and towns; others are still the center of the community, adding to the charm. Often, the training fields are still used - though not for the training of soldiers. Rather, public events, celebrations, or gatherings can be held on them.
